New Apple TV Sales Hit 1 Million This Week

Apple today announced that their favourite “hobby”project, the Apple TV is about to hit the Million sales mark just a couple of months after launch. Despite widespread press criticism even in some cases from the Mac community the mini media player seems to be quite a success. In addition to the device sales Apple announced that sales of TV shows were hitting 400,000 a day and movies 150,000 a day.

On a personal front I love my new Apple TV and most of the evening TV viewing in our house is now courtesy of the little black box. At the recent Christmas get together at BritishMac HQ there was some debate about the latest version and most present were in favour of the old model. Whilst I can see some of the benefit from having a local storage device, all my content is streamed from my iMac so the lack of local storage is not an issue for me really. Whichever your preference, it is clear the new, cheaper, smaller model has been a surprise hit and it will certainly be interesting to see where Apple goes with their hobby next.
