I seem to have had a similar problem. iphone tells me that my Bose wave connect kit is not compatible and won’t charge. I hope that I’m not doing any damage but it works with the charge cable supplied with the phone rather than the one supplied with the Bose docking station. I can now play my phone with full control and charging through my Bose Wave. Hope this helps someone.

I can’t believe how many people have spent hundreds of dollars on speaker docks and they aren’t working.
I spend $28 at walmart on a Memorex speaker dock. Has worked fine now for over a year with my iPhone 4. Yes you get the This accessory is not optimized for performance” popup but it plays through the speakers and has always charged the phone before.
I put it on the dock last night and get the Charging is not supported for this accessory” message. No new updates on the phone, just happened in less than 24 hours. Has worked for like I said over a year now and all of a sudden doesn’t. I’m thinking the speaker is just worn out, was bumped around a bit after I got it but has worked fine since.
Guess I’ll spend another $28 bucks instead of hundreds though!

This seems to be old post already, but I still want to to comment. Me and my wife we have had Ipod nanos for a while and we used to charge them on Onkyo DS-A1 dock which is also connected to our stereo. Wife bought new iPod touch 4gen and we tried to charge it on this Onkyo dock and it says "charging not supported..". I was so furious when I found out from internet that they seem to be changed the charging system just like that. I knew this I'd told my wife to buy something else. This is so arrogant and stupid thing to do from the manufacturer. One thing is for sure, that's the last Apple product that will ever be bought to this household.

So why not buy a wall outlet charger to charge the Ipod, and then buy an auxilary cord to hook the Ipod from the headphone area to the docking station? I just purchased my new Ipod touch 4th generation this past weekend, I tried it on my husband's docking station at home and it worked. The sound was very low coming out of the docking station but I was able to adjust the volume to a decent level. I am going to try it on my docking station at work today. You can find these items on ebay pretty cheap, or go to Radio Shack

Last ipod i will get. New replacement ipod will not charge on my Bose soundock. Apple, what were you thinking. I guess money is more to you than customer care and satisfaction.

Ditto! Sooo annoyed with this. We all did Chris Kindle at Christmas this year and we all got ipod touches. Did not realise charging would not work on our istations. So now we have 3 pointless istations in the house.
Last night I was getting ready to go out. Realised my battery for ipod was dead, so had to drag my laptop upstairs and go run out to the car to find the usb cable. as opposed to the reliable ipod classis, which could have just been put on dock, charge away and play my music

the ipod 4th genration sucks, as everyone says it will not charge on a docking station, I paid $ 440 plus tax not to mention the docking station. Personally I think it is a piece of crap.. Friends warned me not to buy it bout did I listen, hell no. Apple should provide an adapter or whatever to help the consumer out at no charge.

I couldn't agree with you more Scott,I think this an absolute disgrace to treat customers in this way,lets squeeeze as much money from our LOYAL customers seems to be the order of the day for some jumped up Apple executive …Fire him Steve.
