UKMac.net Upgraded To Wordpress 2.5.1

After reading a couple of reviews of the Instant Upgrade plugin for Wordpress, I decided to give it a run on UkMac.net tonight. Unfortunately my experience was not quite as smooth as others have reported, but after a little bit of tweaking ( mainly due to problem with UltimateTagWarrior plugin ) I am back online and running a nice fresh Wordpress release !

Apple Updates iMac Range Again

Apple have yet again updated the ever popular iMac. Todays announcement introduces a new high end model sporting a 3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo, upgraded graphics in the form of an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS and 512MB of dedicated video memory and hard disc capacities of up to 1Tb.

This will further consolidate the iMac as THE premium desktop all in one computer and will undoubtedly continue the rise in iMac sales and further blur the previous distinction between the middle range iMac and the high end Power Mac. For the vast majority of users the iMac now represents both the mid range and the high end product in a very slick and desirable package.

First Commercial Hackintosh to be available soon ?

Psystar ( site down at present ) a small security specialists from Miami has announced that they will be selling a tower based PC capable of running unmodified copies of OS X Leopard for just $399 or $554 with Leopard already installed. The PC, known as OpenMac, will be Core 2 Duo based, come complete with 2Gb of RAM ( the Mini has 1Gb standard ) and is built from components known to be compatible with Apples OS.

At this price it will compare very favourably with the Mac Mini especially as it will probably be more readily expanded, though it is unclear if the device will ever see the light of day. Clearly Apple will not just sit back and let a PC manufacturer produce a machine such as this, especially if they are planning on selling complete with Leopard. A number of commentators have commented that Psystar are doing this to taunt Apple into suing them so they can then counter sue and shout “monopoly!”.
