Cali Lewis and BigTrip.tv
Cali Lewis of Geekbrief TV fame is currently planning a year long trip around 50 US states in a motor home during which time she will be broadcasting ( with the help of Neal ) regular shows on the go. They currently have a site setup called http://www.bigtrip.tv where they are documenting the plans and preparation. In addition they have a site setup to help pay for the trip called
paidbypixels.com. This is similar to the Million Dollar web page of a couple of years past, advertisers pay for pixels on the home page in return for potential click-thru traffic. Best wishes to Cali on this latest venture !!
ShaneCrawford.org
Todays Entrecard ad is for an Apple blog from a guy called Shane Crawford who lives in Austin Texas. Shanecrawford.org is a nicely put together Wordpress blog which combines a mixture of Shanes photography with some nicely written tutorials on getting the most out of development in OS X and is well worth a visit.
Keep up the good work Shane !
More OS X Sleep Problems
It seems as though with every release of OS X a common and persistent problem experienced by Mac users is their machines to go to sleep automatically after a certain period of inactivity. From my current experience OS X 10.5.2 is no different in this respect to any previous release. As usual there are a number of threads on Apples discussion boards and on other Mac forums.
I have listed a few of the threads below for information. If anyone reading this has successfully fixed their sleep settings I would love to hear what snake oil and incantations you had to use to perform the miracle !
OS X 10.5.2 Update Available Now

Macbook Air – Hard Disc Vs SSD Video
Appleinsider have posted a direct comparison of the new Apple Air configured with the standard Hard disc and the Solid State Disc ( SSD ) version. The differences are not entirely surprising, especially to anyone who has had any experience with the Asus Eee PC which also boasts an SSD.
The SSD version boots 18 seconds faster than the traditional hard disc version and loads applications substantially quicker as well. Obviously this speed comes at a price, and in the case of the Air that is a hefty $999 premium. Solid State storage costs are beginning to drop however and capacities are steadily increasing so this model is clearly a pointer at the future of laptops.
Linux Desktop Imitating OS X
Lauri Taimila has an excellent article on modding Ubuntu Linux to make it look like OS X, and the results are quite amazing. The finished solution looks virtually identical to the Mac OS even mimicking the start up screens. Might be tempted to have a go at this on an old laptop myself.
