Apple has apparently fired 800 of their staff who were found guilty of cashing in the $100 rebate for the iPhones that they were given for free ! The conditions of the rebate specifically excluded Apple employees but this apparently did not deter the 800 who are now looking for alternative employment.

After months of speculation and nearly a year and a half since the last release, Apple are set to launch the fifth major iteration of OS X on October 26th. Originally previewed by Steve Jobs at the WWDC event in August 2006 Apples latest Big Cat has big a long time coming and has been eagerly anticipated by the Mac faithful despite it apparently only offering minor feature upgrades compared with OS X Tiger.

Apple have officially launched a new Web Applications Directory for iPhone and iPod Touch’s. The Directory has a categorised list of custom applications that can be accessed by WiFi as well as by the cellular ( EDGE ) connection on the iPhone. Categories include Games, Social Networking, Utilities, Search amongst others.

Appleinsider is reporting that OS X Leopard development is now complete. Rumours have been circulating widely over the last few days of a potential launch of Apples latest big cat with the consensus being that October 26th is the most likely date.
At the same time Apple released 10.4.11, the latest ( and possibly last ) software update for OS X Tiger.
