Leopard and Logitech Mouse Driver - Avoid Like The Plague
Logitech Driver Kills Leopards
John Gruber over at Daring Fireball posted this article yesterday highlighting the fact that some users have been experiencing “blue screen” hangs after installing Leopard. This was my first pointer that things were not right with my setup, and after seeing this I then spent some time trying to find a way to uninstall the Logitech Control Center from my system. Unfortunately the links that I could find regarding this on Logitechs site and forums and elsewhere on the Internet seemed to suggest that running the Installer again would provide an Uninstall option.
Running the Installer for V2.3.1 does NOT provide such a choice however. After much searching I eventually found the Uninstaller app already on my system hidden away in /Library/Application Support/Logitech. Thanks Logitech, nothing like making it easy for your customers to remove your software.
If you have had problems with stability since upgrading to Leopard and you have Logitechs malware ( erm software ) installed on your Mac, I suggest you try this as a first step in troubleshooting.
Please let me know if you had this problem.

Quick update. After removing LCC this morning I have been working all day without a crash ( fingers crossed ). I am fairly sure now that the instability I was seeing was definitely down to Logitech’s driver software.
I hope for logitech’s sake that they address this issue quickly as I have seen a number of comments today from Mac users saying they will possibly never buy Logitech products again…
Got to say, not had this issue on my iMac system and lcc app. Odd.
Nice to see a bit of Skitch there! A fellow fan?
Alec, yes Skitch is a superb tool…
Finally I found info on this glitch or bug in Leopard or more specifically LOGITECH. Installed Leopard, blue screen, did a clean install, went nice. Hello! Dock does not unhide or hide itself. Thought I was going nuts but, found out it was my Logitech mouse that was giving me grief. It also prevented my external Lacie drive from mounting. I was frantic. Started cursing on Apple. My apologies Apple. Logitech GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER! It took me a day or so to figure this out by Googling it. Thought I was alone on this. Anyway, I’m using a corded Apple mouse for now. Everything is nice in Leopard land now. How could such a small thing create so many proplems?
Wayne, I am still using the Logitech mouse and it works fine, just you cant use the forward page/back page type buttons. It really is a shame though that a company screws up a superb product like the MX1000 by shipping shoddy driver software.
I had a problem with Logitech VX Nano mouse. After I installed official Logitech driver, my Macbook couldn’t wake up once it gets into sleep. Now I’m using SteerMouse which works fine with the VX Nano mouse. (SteerMouse is not a freeware though)
I loved my Logitech track ball and I have been so frustrated having to use a regular mouse. I am new mac user and have been having some problems that never occured to me could be related to my trackball.
I have used a Logitech Laser G7 for more than a month now without _any_ issues (but then again; I didn’t install _any_ drivers). Funny thing; since 2 days my mouse freezes every so many seconds … did a PRAM reset, to no avail. Reboot; same problem. Different USB connector; no change. Power USB hub; same problem. Any suggestions? I really do not like the standard white mouse that came with my Mac Pro.

I’ve got a MacPro and the MX1000 and I first noticed the issue whilst gaming. I was playing Prey and I suddenly couldn’t turn right very well. On other occasions, the scroll wheel suddenly decided to go into overdrive even when I wasn’t scrolling.
On a couple of occasions, the left click would activate of its own accord.
I have since had this issue in MacOS itself as well and was desperately hoping that it was not the Logitech driver. I’ve been diving into the Activity Monitor to see whether I can catch something misbehaving, but have never seen anything odd there.
This is my 5th Mac and my 3rd Logitech mouse (second MX1000 after the scroll died on the first one). I love my MX1000 - I think it’s the nicest mouse I’ve ever used so I’d hate to have to skip it just because of some software….
