New Quartz Effects For iChat In Leopard Already Appearing

Out of the box Leopard provides a few neat effects that use the new Alpha channel capabilities of iChat and PhotoBooth to put you in front of the Eiffel Tower or on a Roller Coaster, but it also provides an open mechanism for adding your own effects. Only 3 days after the release a number of clever alternative effects are already circulating on Mac Forums and a few of these are listed below for your pleasure.

Ipod Ad Effect

iPod Ad Effect

The iPod Ad Effect - This effect makes you appear in silhouette just like the dancers on the iPod Ads complete with coloured background.

Invisible Man Effect

Invisible Man Effect

The Invisible Man Effect - Interesting effect, sort of self evident from the title.

Star Wars Hologram Effect

Star Wars Hologram

Star Wars Hologram Effect - A copy of the effect used in Star Wars when Princess Leia appears with her message to Ben Kenobi ?

Obviously these are just the first few that have appeared. You can pretty much expect to see a whole industry build up around this in the coming weeks, including web sites specializing in supplying these types of effects.

One other interesting link I have seen so far highlights the other potential for this new capability of iChat. Check out Gizmodo’s article here which they rate as NSFW ( Not Suitable For Work ! ). It is quite tame really but expect to see less subtle examples like this also as time goes on…
