My Widget of the day today is a neat little tool for anyone who runs a Wordpress based web site and wants a quick peek at their sites traffic for the day. The Shortstat Widget works in conjunction with the Shortstat Wordpress plugin. It seems the number of Mac sites and podcast by Brits is growing by the day. One of the latest additions is BUMP British Users of Mac Podcast, a new site from two young lads Chris ( age 14 ) and Stu ( 23 ) who have so far produced half a dozen podcasts (available through iTunes Music store ). Worth a listen if you want a UK focused Mac Podcast.
More locally to myself here in Shropshire there is UkMac.co.uk ( my sites name sake ) run by James Rickards …

After about two days of fiddling with DNS settings and .htaccess files UkMac.net has finally been transferred from Netfirms to Plus.Net. One of the difficulties with the migration, and this is probably common to most Wordpress sites, is getting all the little plugins and tweaks to themes working again. The reality is that many little changes get made to a site during its evolution and unless you are religious about recording these it can be difficult if not impossible to replicate the exact configuration you had previously.

If you are reading this then UKmac.net is now running on Plus.net and I have successfully transferred from my old Netfirms hosting account. One thing that is already very clear is just how slow Netfirms hosting was. Modifying this Wordpress site now is vastly quicker and to be honest I can’t really believe I didn’t notice just how slow it was before.
Of course part of the speed up could be down to the fact that I took the opportunity to upgrade from Wordpress 2.0.4 to Wordpress 2.2.2 ?
