Accurately Selecting Video Clips In iMovie ‘08

iMovieThe new “skimming” feature of iMovie ‘08 that allows quick and easy grabbing of video clips from your library to drop into the current movie project is a fantastic feature for speeding up the creation of content, however depending on your mousing skills it can be quite difficult to get the EXACT start and stop points of the clip that you want.

One way of accurately selecting the endpoint of the current clip is to use the cursor keys to move the end of the highlighted section instead of dragging around the mouse. Basically all you need to do is to roughly grab the clip that you are looking for then put down the mouse and simply press and hold the SHIFT key while you move the clip forward and backward by pressing the left and right cursor keys. The selection will extend or contract by one frame for each press of the cursor keys.

Is .Mac Subscription Worth It For iPhoto Publishing ?

iPhotoThe new .Mac Gallery feature is certainly impressive but would you subscribe to .Mac for this feature alone ? Personally I have been a Flickr subscriber for over 2 years now mainly to “backup” my photos online, and for this the service is perfectly adequate. However if I wanted to produce a showcase of my best photos ( and videos ) it seems as if .Mac would be a much better choice, albeit a slightly more expensive one.

Obviously there is more to .Mac than the Gallery but this feature alone has certainly got one Mac user considering subscribing again…

Unlocking iMovie ‘08

iMovieiMovie ‘08 is easily the most changed product in the latest release of Apples iLife Suite and as such is already the subject of a number of web sites aimed at helping you get the most out of the new features. One such site is Unlocking iMovie ‘08 which has about a dozen howtos posted already.

Worth watching this one.

UKMac.net Gets Mentioned on BritishMac Podcast !

Thanks to Will on BritishMac.com for the mention at the end this weeks podcast ( issue 55 ) ! As you can tell things have been a little quiet here for the last couple of weeks due to Summer ( if you can call it that ) holidays. As luck would have it these last two weeks have been awash with Mac news… New iMacs, iLife ‘08 and iWork ‘08 to name but a few. I am currently reviewing iLife and iWork and will hopefully post some news/views on these new products shortly. First impressions are really positive, I am loving the look of Numbers which finally brings presentation quality to the world of spreadsheets. iMovie ‘08 looks to be a stunning product as does the latest release of iPhoto, both of which have bought innovative new functionality to the fore which certainly keeps these products a step ahead of the alternatives.
