Online Karaoke Site – Perfect for party nights !

Singshot.com is an online social network site with a difference. Instead of posting your likes/dislikes, chatting or posting viral videos as is the norm, on this site you sing along to your favourite music and your rendition is simultaneously recorded onto the site. Other users can then listen to your recording and rate and comment on it. Virtual Karoake and best of all registration and usage is completely free.

This looks like the perfect accompaniment to an evening in with friends… Check it out.

HOWTO : Display iTunes Current Track Lyrics On Desktop

GeekTool is a Mac OSX preference pane application that allows you to redirect the output from files, commands and images onto your Mac desktop. One nice nice trick is to use this to capture the lyrics from the currently playing track in iTunes and display them on the desktop. The command to do this is shown below

osascript -e ”’tell application “iTunes” to set currentLyrics to the lyrics of the current track”’

To set this up open GeekTool and click on the New Entry button then change the type of entry to Shell and paste the code above into the command window. Once you have done this move the text block on the desktop into a suitable position and resize as required. Finally set the font/size/colour/ to your personal preferences.

When you fire up iTunes and start playing a track that has lyrics embedded they will be displayed on your desktop. Obviously you will need to get the lyrics into iTunes in the first place for this trick to be of any use. There are lots of Widgets around that can do this, the one I use personally is called TunesText

Pixelmator – Gorgeously Slick Mac Image Editor Coming Soon

Pixelmator is a new Image Editing app from two brothers Saulius and Aidas. It has not been released as yet but if the screenshots on their web site are anything to go by it looks like being quite a hit. If you visit the web site you can register your email address to be Notified when the product starts shipping.

Is this the future for Radiology Workstations ?

Came across this video clip today of one of the current MultiTouch Interfaces being touted as the future of Computer/Human interaction interfaces. This demo looks pretty slick and gives an insight into what I think might be the ideal review Workstation for Radiologists in the future. I am sure imaging specialists and doctors alike would die for a direct tactile interface to their medical images that worked like this.

Veoh.com Free Online Video site with Downloads !

Veoh.com is a slick online video site run by Veoh Networks, Inc., a privately held company backed by leading technology and media investors, including Spark Capital, Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company, Time Warner Inc. and Shelter Capital. In addition to supporting the usual types of search and browse facilities the site has separate sections for Series, Channels and People which aim to try to introduce an element of social networking to the site.

The really nice feature about Veoh though is the ability to download videos and play back with the downloadable player software. The software is available for Windows and Mac and acts as a video library, download client and player. The player looks very Mac/Vista like with a slick polished black interface and has a full screen mode for TV like playback.

iPhone Application List Site now Open

iPhone Amazingly it is still nearly 2 weeks until the launch of the iPhone and already the first ( presumably of many ) sites dedicated to providing applications for the iPhone is up. iPhone Application List has a categorised list of applications with live previews.

One to bookmark if you are planning on getting an iPhone this June.

FON Beta Programme

FON is the largest WiFi community in the world. FON is a Community of people making WiFi universal and free. The FON vision is WiFi everywhere made possible by the members of the Community, Foneros.

For some time now I have been running a FON Router for both personal and public access ( although it is fair to say the public side is very limited ! ). A few weeks ago I was sent an email from FON inviting me to apply to be part of their Beta programme. I returned the email promptly and this week I received a response informing me that I had been accepted to the programme and that in future I would be receiving their beta products for evaluation free of charge. All that is required in return is that I write an evaluation and return it to them. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Having only last week ordered the Fontenna ( the FON Router external antenna ) I am hoping that the first product I get to evaluate might be FON’s forthcoming 802.11n router. If this video is correct the claimed range for this device is around 1Km. If you think about the density of FON routers necessary to achieve blanket coverage of a particular area this sort of range makes the reality of a widely available free wireless infrastructure really start to be an possibility.

PS. Would love to hear from you if you are a Telford based FON user, I know from the FON Maps there are a few out there, one within half a mile of myself which would be an interesting test of the new 802.11n routers….

New iPhone Apps appearing already

iPhone Even Apple itself must be surprised by the speed at which applications for the iPhone are beginning to appear on the Internet. iPhone iChat is the latest app to appear on Publictivity.com and if this is indicative of the type of software that iPhone users can expect then Apple can expect to have very healthy sales of their latest gadget. This is of course as many have already discussed the clear reasoning behind Apples announcement of Safari for Windows at the WWDC this week.

Weird Picture on Google Maps Street View

Just playing around on Google Maps new Street view and found this weird anomaly… Looks like some sort of white rainbow ? Either that or Superman just flashed by ! Anyone care to hazard a guess what this is ? Is it just lens flare ?
