iPod Shuffles selling like hot cakes

iPod ShuffleThe new iPod Shuffle is apparently selling out in stores in many parts of the world. The latest addition to the Apple iPod line has been flying off store shelves, with estimates for the first quarter sales falling in at around the 5 Million mark, which is hugely impressive and further indication if any were needed that the iPod brand is as strong as ever.

It doesnt take a genius to work out that Xmas is going to be a major peak in Shuffle sales. The Shuffle is really a perfect stocking filler, smaller and cuter than the previous incarnation and priced to compete very agressively with the budget Taiwanese no-name players.

Now some good Zune press ( though fair ? )

ZuneArsTechnica reviews are usually quite fair in my experience, but in this reviewExternal Link I think I would have to seriously question Nate Andersons bias. To be fair he does quite a good job of highlighting the many flaws in the Zune, from the poor software install experience through to the limitations of the Zune music store ( no video, no podcasts ), but then in his conclusion he gives the Zune a score of 7 out of 10 !

And his reason for this generous score ? His wife liked it…

More bad press for Zune

ZuneAnd the bug reports keep flooding in, in this articleExternal Link on AranWorld the author reports that when trying to import his existing MP3’s into the Zune music library it failed to import 2,400 out of a total of 3,000 tracks. This is pretty poor even by Microsoft standards.

As many of Aran’s commentors suggest perhaps he should have bought himself an iPod and saved himself a world of pain. Some people will never learn. As my old boss often said, “better to be at the leading edge than the bleeding edge”.

How to make Ubuntu look exactly like OS X

Well they do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and that being the case there are obviously lots of folk out there who are flattering Apples OS X !

Obviously we are all well aware that many of the “new” features of Microsoft’s soon to be released Vista are straight rip offs of Apples design, but Lauri Taimila is at least clear about what he (she?) is setting out to do in his guide on how to make Ubuntu LinuxExternal Link look exactly like OS X Tiger. The instructions on how to make the ugly brown Ubuntu look something like are very clear and the final result is actually pretty close to the real thing.
